All Oakley lenses are made from pure PLUTONITE which filter all UVA UVB UVC and with High Definition Optics (HDO’s) which enable visual clarity and sharp vision. ANSI Z87.1 standards ensure impact protection. Oakley ensure their 3point fit as standard which means the sunglasses only touch the face at crucial points, at the bridge of the nose and on the ears. Predominately the frames are made of lightweight O-Matter which promises to increase the all day comfort fit. Earsocks are made from another Oakley creation UNOBATANIUM. These are added for extra comfort on the ears and increase grip as you sweat, so you wont loose these sunnies easily!
Lets start with one of our new custom frames, the Oakley Oil Rig. As ever Oakley have produced a sunglass which are ahead of their game. The Oil Rig make a statement. They are very bold, chunky and sure of themselves. And now you can make these your own.
When it comes to technology, the Oil Rig are top notch. They boast precise
clarification lenses, with all your standard Oakley features. They are designed
so that they curve parallel to your face to insure precise fit that will not
protrude at the sides. The Oil Rig comes with redesigned stem architecture that
puts the icon of innovation in the crosshairs of dimensional grooves. The cut
away arms add to the Oil Rig's artistic sculptured design and feature Oakley's
universal O logo on both arms.
So which colour is for you? Well lets start with the frame, Oakley are offering
Brown Smoke, Polished Rootbeer, Polished Black, Shadow Camo or White text. All
earthy tones, Oakley have chosen to opt for colours in keeping with the idea of
the oil rig, camoflages and army like.
Moving on to the all important lens. For truer colour perception in bright sun,
the Warm Grey, Black Iridium or Grey Polarized lens most effective. The Grey
lens is optimized for medium-bright sun. For enhanced visual contrast that
boosts depth perception in bright sun, I would advise the Tungsten Iridium or
Bronze Polarized lens.
And how about fashion? Well, Oil rigs are sporting the visor, pretty much the
latest craze in fashion sunglasses at present. So if you’re a bit of a style
junkie, alternatively, if you a sports addict….these adaptable sunnies are for
you!
Great for round faces and guaranteed to turn heads!
So top notch sunglasses? Ten out of ten
Because the Oakley women demands style, sophistication and reliability, the ENDURE was created. It boasts a bang on trend visor shaped lens and feminine contours. There are also vents in the stems to allow a cooling airflow, great for running or any active sport! The expert lens also eliminates water smears and repels dust and dirt, so nothing can get in the way of you and the gold medal! As if that wasn’t enough, you can change the lenses easily to maximise usage in any environment.
Colours? Oakley have chosen a sunset palette with purples and red featuring aside from your standard colours. As an extra touch, you can change the icon colours
If you’re a bike rider or mountain climber, these are a great pair of sunglasses for you, they slide easily under your helmet and the visor ensures your vision isn’t obstructed by a double lens nose bridge. Following this, the lens offers complete coverage, as Oakley know its essential not to damage the delicate skin around our eyes!
With all the elements the world may throw at us Oakley females, we’ll be ready to endure them all with these works of Oakley art!
If you prefer the tapered look, Oakley have developed this sports frame with Condensed Cranial Geometry so the sunglasses don’t stick out at the sides and ooze sophistication. This makes them great for sliding in under helmets if you’re a bike rider. If this is your passion, you will also find that the FIVES SQUARED come in a range of coloured lenses to benefit your ride. Warm grey and Black Iridium both help to maintain colour contrast, allowing you to easily differentiate between brown and green. There is also a Polarised Black Iridium lens for bright light, to help prevent glare.
The metal ‘O’ icons on the sides add a street edge, keeping the sunglasses
both cool and sleek.
FIVES SQUARED are sunglasses with attitude. Undoubtedly, the outstanding feature
of the SQUARED is the smooth frame which continues round the side of your
temples. Unlike your average sunglass, these don't stick out at the sides, using
what Oakley call 'Condensed Cranial Geometry,' giving a tapered feel. Enhancing
this with the metal icons adds to the sharp look. The complete clarity of the
lenses is down to the XYZ OPTICS and HDO's, ensuring peak optical view and
performance.
Although the Matte White tiger/Warm Grey (03-444) aren't quite for me, you cant
deny they are pure impact sunglasses. I personally prefer the Rootbeer/Bronze
(03-442), which to me still pack a punch with the gold 'O' and shiny finish, but
without being over the top 'out there.' Or even the Grey Smoke/Warm Grey
(03-441) take my fancy, super shiny and futuristic, creating a mirrored look.
You won't be a FIVES customer if you're hoping to blend in with the crowd. If
you're like me and you've been an avid FIVES follower for the past ten years,
you know what FIVES are going to offer you. 3 point fit to ensure paramount
comfort, impact protection for scratch prevention and PLUTONITE lenses to filter
UV rays. And even if you're slightly visually challenged shall we say (like the
best of us!), then Oakley offer Authentic Prescription Lenses with 2.00-4.00
combined power.
When going for a cycle, I really appreciate the lens curvature (8.75 base)
offered, because it means I have an extended range of view, which makes me feel
safer. I chose the anti-glare provided by the IRIDIUM cover which also really
helps to balance and filter out the yield of light entering my eyes, again
making me feel safer when biking, along with protecting my eyes. There's no
price to pay for quality lenses either, the frames are made from lightweight
O-MATTER material which makes them not only fit but I can barely feel them on my
face.
One thing I would say about the FIVES is that they are a better fit for a narrower face. Not a problem for me, but just as a word of warning I have a friend who I recommended the sunglasses too who found them a little snug.
Having had previous Oakley Fives, I have always put my trust in these for longevity. I'm always on my bike and aside from protection, I also want to look. good. When I received my first pair as a present from my partner, I was initially a bit cautious with the frames as they are so lightweight I thought they would break easily. However, these have been knocked off my face several times before and remained undamaged. So, although they are lightweight, are also pretty sturdy.
FIVES have certainly improved through the years, when I look back to my first pair of FIVES 2.0, although I worshiped them and they were cream of the crop at the time, I can't help but look at these 2009's in awe. Oakley have clearly taken on board feedback from the FIVES of the past and endeavoured to improve.
The FIVES have been re-vamped into 2009! Striving for unconventionality, FIVES are now offered in a greater range of colours and exclusive design. Not only do they look superb, but the different coloured lenses offer different qualities to the wearer. For example, take the red and gold iridium lens. These block out more light than the conventional grey or black lens, great if you spend your day in bright sunlight, or have sensitive vision.
Firstly, the fit. The new edition of FIVES have been adapted to fit small to
medium head, as before there were issues with the FIVES being slightly small.
The 2009's have carried forward all the worthy attributes of the past; the O
MATTER frame, XYZ OPTICS, base curvature, PLUTONITRE lenses and impact
resistance. Furthermore, the new design incorporates what Oakley have coined the
'wrap' and 'rake' technology. Research has shown Oakley that more lens
curvature, the greater the field of vision and extended range of protection from
the elements. The 'wrap' is the curvature from side to side, whereas the 'rake'
is curvature from top to bottom. This warrants as much widespread protection as
humanly possible from drying out my eyes and the distortion which can be common
of average polarized lenses.
FIVES are a good all rounder, they suit pretty much any face shape and
individual style. The one thing I will say about FIVES to watch out for is the
upper frame can be prone to weakness as is the most vulnerable part of the
frame, however it would still take some considerable force to break these
beauties. At the end of the day if you do break them, Oakley guarantee a year
warranty, which covers you for pretty much any (accidental) damage.
The FIVES are ideal for bikers as the tapered frame can slot straight over your
ears and under your bike helmet without causing friction or getting caught on
the inside. Thin earpieces also aid this slimline frame, which ensure they don't
fall off your face or leave those dreaded indentations either!
Another great pair of sports sunnies as a necessity for any activity! With smooth clean lines and an edgy sports attitude.
The Oakley ANTIX are the sunglasses of pro-athletes. These sunglasses are commanding all those of you who demand a lifestyle of sports, action and individuality. Smooth lines, rounded angles, carefully moulded contours.
I was taking a stroll down the high street when I first saw these beauties.
.......they were on display and they caught my eye straight away. I just
remember thinking, smooth angles, polished frame...Yeah Nice. I had to go in for
a closer inspection. Sold!
I think it was the way these sunglasses have been engineered so meticulously
which made them a must have. The combination of the sleek frame and new square
metal accents gives the ANTIX visual thrust. Then there's the hinges,
constructed with precision and performing with durability and comfort.
To me they scream sports pro. I like to wear these day to day with jeans and a
tee, or just shorts for when I'm playing sport. Like you, I'm the kind of guy
that likes to stand out, the ANTIX make me feel important, a cut above. At the
end of the day, there's a certain guy that stand up to the impact the ANTIX
have. They have an attitude and original style coupled with sheer authenticity,
which only Oakley pulls off .
When I met my sunglasses for the first time, slid them onto my face and looked
in the mirror, i realised me and these sunglasses were meant to be They married
to my face so comfortably (That'll be Oakley's 3-point fit). They offered the
visual impact I was looking for this summer (That'll be the shiny curved
frames). This is my third pair of Oakley Sunglasses. I wear my Juliets when I'm
with the Mrs for the day or my older Fives daily, but I wanted something with
more impact. My ANTIX come out when I'm out with the boys, watching a game or
having a kick around in the park.
When I took my Oakley's for my Antix debut, I was impressed (to say the least) at how clear the world appeared (That'll b the Thanks to HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS or HDO's for visual clarity). Not only was my view clear, thanks to the single continuous PLUTONITE lens, it was also unobstructed and with complete range. I was quite happy to chill in the sun watching the game all day, comfortable in the knowledge my eyes are being protected with 100% UV filtering.
Style and colours? I opted for the Brown Tortoise/Dark Bronze (03-703). They look slick and sporty, SO in keeping! I particularly like the mottled effect on the frame. But if this isn't your style, Oakley offer a choice of lenses and frames and it depends what you're after. Opt for the Black (Black Tortoise/Black Iridium 03-701)or Grey (Polished Black/Warm Grey 03-700) which are epically good at reducing the glare and keeping a sharp focus. If you're like me, you'll go for the dark bronze lens. I took them abroad to Spain and despite the bright sunlight, I was perfectly comfortable wearing them around the pool all day. Two polarized lens options are available, and both cut glare with 99% polarization efficiency. They also eliminate the haze and distortion found with ordinary polarized lenses.
When it comes to the colour of the lens, aside from needing to look great, you need to choose the type of lens to suit you. Here’s a little aid to get you started…
Transmission: The percentage of light filtered through to your eyes
Index/Category: The group the lens fits into, relating to how much sun it blocked out. The higher the category, the more sun is blocked out
Iridium: A mirror look lens which prevents the glare
UV400: All Oakley sunglasses protects up to 400 nanometres of light
Polarised: High quality long life lens. Prevents the glare arising from horizontal wavelengths when light rebounds off metallic surfaces, mirrored surfaces or the bonnet of a car to prevent you squinting.
