Fila
Fila sportswear is internationally recognised as high quality performance focused apparel and the same goes for their sunglasses. Whether on the track or field, Fila sunglasses are designed to provide support and boost the modern athlete.
Fila can be traced back to 1911 where the seeds of Fila were planted by the fila brothers in the city of Biella, Italy, home to the world’s finest fabrics for more than 600 years. Originally just producing clothes for the people of the Italian Alps, Fila soon went on to become one of the leading textile suppliers for Italian fashion designers.
Fila honed their craft over the decades and in 1956 pioneered the use of circular knit technology in menswear which would later lead to the development of the first seamless polo shirt. Twenty years later, Fila entered the world of sportswear and changed everything. Endorsing superstar tennis play Bjorn Borg, Fila were able to demonstrate the quality of their sportswear on the international stage.
The iconic Fila F box logo was created in 1973. Inspired by pop-art influences, it was a logo that would soon be recognised across the world.
Fila launched its first tennis collection in the mid eighties and began a new era of sportswear innovation. Fila's use of dramatic colours and iconic design features were never before seen in sports brands. Fila began to sponsor the US open, which Fila continued for next two decades and dramatically raised the profile of Fila across the world.
Fila's influence on modern culture expanded in 1987 when Fila launched the thirteenth shoe in the Fila Fitness collection, a shoe soon adopted by the b-boys of New York who renamed it the F-13. Fila the brand became synonymous with cool and continues to be worn by hip hop artists today.
1989 saw Boris Becker win both Wimbledon, the US open and was also named ATP Tour Player of the Year, all in a rather fetching Fila outfit. The world noticed too and began to associate world class performances with the world class gear Fila provide to international athletes.
That file endorsed victory was repeated in 2005 when Kim Clijsters defeated Mary Pierce in the final of the US Open, claiming her first Grand Slam singles title. Kim won 9 titles in total in 2005, including Indian Wells and Key Biscayne back-to-back, joining Steffi Graf as the only woman to have done the double. Kim also received the award for WTA Tour Player of the Year 2005.
Fila continue to prove their sports gear is of the highest quality and always ready to perform.
