Jil Sander Designer Glasses
German born designer Jil Sander studied in California, Los Angeles. Working as a fashion editor at German women's magazine Petra Sander eventually opened her own fashion Mecca with her debut boutique opening in Hamburg in 1967. Stocking edgy designers such as Thierry Mugler and Sonia Rykiel, Sander tentatively and gradually added in her own designs and after hard graft and touch and go moments, Sander founded her own fashion house, Jil Sander GmbH in 1968.
1975 saw the designer show her first collection in Paris. Unfortunately the reception wasn’t deemed successful due to the popularity for glitzy, over the top trends that contrasted against the designer’s minimalist style and clean lined collection. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1990s that Sander finally found approval. Gaining press her easy to wear, premium pieces, Sander is noted for creating the so-called onion look (German: 'Zwiebel-Look') layering various pieces of clothing in one outfit.
