Dior's New Marriage

It’s been one of fashion’s biggest stories for some time. And after the dethronement of John Galliano at the house of Christian Dior one of the most powerful in the world and what seemed like an age in the announcement of his successor, Raf Simons has finally showed his debut collection for Dior and at Paris Couture Week no less.

Did it work? There is a resounding yes here at Sunglasses Shop and from the fashion world in general. In speaking to the Guardian Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz who was in attendance put Simons' success eloquently 'Today was a beautiful marriage between a designer and a house’. Marc Jacobs whose name was mentioned in connection with the role said it was ‘absolutely magnificent’. Donatella Versace who opened Paris Couture Week on Sunday said ‘from the very first look today it made total sense’. Natalia Vodianova, Princess Charlene of Monaco and Diane Von Furstenberg also attended the show in the grand building near the Arc de Triomphe. Sharon Stone stepped up to the plate arriving in a black Dior gown and Dior Graphix1 sunglasses. Walls were lined floor to ceiling in a tightly packed display of real flowers, said to be numbered around the million mark.

"I wanted it to be linked to the codes of Dior, but to have more energy," Simons said in post-show interview. Indeed this was very apparent, in the ‘Bar’ suits and gowns the spirit of Dior was very much present but with a new energy courtesy of the Belgian designer which bristled with newness when it came to cut and embellishment. Simons' minimalist light touch balanced it all to the perfect degree and a new era for Dior sets off to a very strong and clear new start.
