Stoner's Farewell Win

One of the biggest crowds seen at a MotoGP races gathered at Phillip Island. But most were there to cheer on one man: Casey Stoner. The two-time MotoGP champion was making his final appearance on his home turf before he prepares to retire. He was at his very best too, winning on home turf for the sixth season in a row.

With his Oakley sunglasses on, Stoner always looks how a winner should. And he performed like one across the entire weekend despite the obvious pressure. A superb practice session kicked things off. However, things threatened to conspire against the Australian in qualifying. A crash 20 minutes into the session made things difficult, but he recovered to snatch pole position.

When race day came, Stoner wasn't to be denied. He produced a dominant display as he sauntered to a comfortable victory. Meanwhile, Jorge Lorenzo won this season's championship title by securing second place.

Lorenzo's title was all but confirmed when nearest rival Dani Pedrosa crashed out. But in truth, the day belonged to Stoner. Despite losing the lead to Lorenzo early on, Stoner dug deep to brush the Spaniard aside and claim win number five of the season. Next up for the Oakley man is the final race of his career at Valencia on 11th November.
