Barcia Takes Phoenix

Despite the shorter days and freeing temperatures, we're still glad it's January. Why you might ask. Well, it's because the first month of the year signals the start of another action-packed, mud-slinging AMA Supercross season. And with just two races down, Justin Barcia is already off the mark with a win at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

With his Oakley MX Goggles in tow, "Bam-Bam" Barcia's view was clear throughout as he dominated the showpiece event. Having bagged pole position, Barcia pulled away from the chasing pack early on in as he eased to a comfortable win. Fellow Oakley ace and 2012 champ Ryan Villopoto finished second as season opener winner Davi Millsaps took third.

A frame worthy of both Justin Barcia and defending champ Ryan Villopoto...

Barcia told the AMA Supercross official website: "I can't tell you how excited I am right now. I didn't think this win would come so soon. I kept it smooth out there, but the track was super slick. It was a great night for me."

Although there's still 15 races left, the early table still makes fine reading for Barcia. The 20 year-old Honda rider currently sits second overall with 39 points, six behind Davi Millsaps. Next up for the riders and hordes of fans in Oakley sunglasses is a trip to the Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California.
