A bit about Oakley

The Oakley brand has been built upon the innovative and futuristic ideas of one Jim Jannard, self-proclaimed mad-scientist and inventor. Jim, a staunch anti-functionalist, held firm the belief that ‘everything in the world can and will be made better’ and he made it his mission to improve upon the function and aesthetics of all number of products, from motocross equipment to sunglasses and beyond.
Initially operating from his garage with only $300 capital, Jim developed a new kind of motorcycle handgrip which was noted amongst industry pro’s for it’s pioneering design and patented ‘Unobtainable’ material, which increased grip with sweat.

Following this success, Jim went on to create the ‘O Frame goggle’ with its unique curved lens in the perfect arc of a cylinder. It was this invention which catapulted Jannard’s unique fusion of art and science onto the MX racing circuit where the ‘O Frame’ dominated for the next 17 years.
Encouraged, Jim continued on his quest by reinventing sunglasses for sports, cleverly incorporating his previous ‘Eyeshades’ invention, a design that began an evolution of eyewear from simple accessory to essential equipment.

The brand was quickly approached by world class competitors including Greg LeMond, who went on to become a three-time winner of the Tour de France; Tri-athletes Scott Tinley and Mark Allen, and professional road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong who demanded nothing less than the high performance and excellent protection provided by Oakley’s products.

Since its humble beginnings in 1974, Oakley has been at the forefront of design technology, and has been awarded more than 540 patents worldwide.

Hide out and stand out in Oakley Hinder and Oakley Deception sunglasses

We at Sunglasses Shop spot a hot new accessory for the summer, Oakley Hinder. Sleek and seductive, this sunglass compliments your style while giving you that ‘who is she?’ intrigue.

Designed exclusively for women, Hinder is a thoroughly modern take on the classic aviator frame. The frame has been reshaped for the next decade and features an industrial twist that is anything but ordinary. With its ultramodern styling, and iconic frame hinges, Hinder sets the pace for future up-and-coming design.

The stand-out C-5 alloy frame is made of lightweight metal compounds and is especially engineered for comfort and performance. Comfort comes in the way of Unobtainium nose pads and Three-Point-Fit, both of which hold your sunglasses securely in place. For this helps maintain the precise optical alignment of the lenses.

Plutonite lenses provide your eyes with the best protection by filtering 100 percent of all UVA, UVB and UVC rays and harmful blue light. High Energy Visible wavelengths (HEV) has been linked to several forms of eye damage, which is why Plutonite lens material is designed to block HEV for up to 400 nanometres (nm).

For those seeking further protection Oakley has created Oakley Deception (above), a single lens design that wraps around the face for even better side protection.

To help compliment your vision, as well as your style, Hinder comes in a polarised lens option that stops reflected light waves their tracks. Because sunglasses serve a different purpose out on the field than in a fishing boat, Hinder Polished Chome Polarised comes with an all purpose lens that stops glare and improves colour perception.

Hinder comes with the added benefit of an exclusive sunglasses case to help keep your sunglasses in mint condition.

These sunglasses are fun, flirty and cool - just like a pair of Oakley ladies sunglasses should be – and come in a variation of colours for you to choose from including matte berry (top) and rose gold. If you are still wearing last summers sunglasses, than this is your style intervention.

Why choose ordinary sunglasses when you can wear Oakley Probation?

One of the leading sports performance brands in the world, Oakley is the holder of over 500 patents and is continually rejecting conventional ideas, and when necessary, reinventing from scratch. This often results in iconic and inimitable products such as Oakley Probation, a square C-5 alloy frame that opens your eyes to High Definition Optics.

Probation is a new proposal of Oakley Inmate, which has a starring role in The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. But instead of individual lenses, Probation has a continuous lens contour made of Plutonite lens material. The design itself is characteristically Oakley, a modern combination of breakthrough technology and superior styling, by going far beyond the call of duty.

The square lens maintains clarity even at the sides, and spreads across both eyes for maximum protection against UVA, UVB and UVC rays. Plutonite lens material utilises HDO so that everything appears exactly as it, and not repositioned, paramount to those participating in outdoor shooting activities such as archery and clay pigeon shooting. This proprietary lens material also filters up to 100 of blue light rays for up to 400nm, which is commonly linked to retinal diseases such as cataracts and temporary loss of vision.

C-5 alloy forms the overall frame shape for lightweight durability and impact resistance. The Unobtainium stem sleeves increase their grip with sweat, perfect on hot sunny days or when the heat is on. Metal Oakley icons feature alongside a subtle arm twist to complete the look.

Probation come in a choice of cool metal frame colours including polished gold, polished black and brushed chrome, which comes with an Iridium lens coating that reduces glare and balances light transmission. VR28 Black Iridium lens (brushed chrome) is ideal for medium to bright light and increases contrast while improving depth perception.

Originality and technology is the definitive of Oakley, whose Probation sunglasses - though square - are unquestionably cool. Buy them, along with Oakley Inmate, at Sunglasses Shop in time for summer and keep your old sunglasses tucked away in the draw. Why wear ordinary sunglasses when you can wear a pair of Oakleys?

Oakley Scalpel is head-and-shoulders above the rest

Oakley Scalpel Ducati Black is pays homage to MotoGP rider Casey Stoner, and is the hot new sunglass for 2010. The 25-year-old is the second youngest rider to win the premier class title, after 1983 Champion Freddie Spencer, and became the first Australian rider to win all three current GP classes after his debut win in Qatar in 2007.

The metal icons and Unobtainium stem sleeves of this special edition frame are rendered in Ducati red, with Stoner 23 laser etched near the bottom of the lens. Black Iridium lenses have been chosen for this Signature Series rendition so that you can enjoy crisp vision with reduced glare and truer colour perception.

Oakley Scalpel is for those seeking cutting-edge technology that is head-and-shoulders above the rest. Unobtainium stem sleeves continue along the underside of these sunglasses, which have been carved into the shape of a scalpel for an assertive look. The seemingly sharp contours are made of a lightweight O Matter frame material that offers a level of performance as assertive as it is styled.

The smooth contours form part of a Three-Point-Fit system that holds lenses in place so that they maintain precise optical alignment. This not only maximises performance but ensures 24 hour long comfort.

Scalpel combines the best of High Definition Optics (HDO) with a look that goes from street to sport. The full base lens curvature extends your point of view, while maintaining clear clarity along the entirety of the lens. You will also be fully protected against UVA, UVB and UVC rays and blue light for up to 400nm, as well as impact from the side. In fact, Scalpel adheres to all basic impact, optical and visual performance standards.

Naturally there are a number of lens options available including polarised and Iridium lenses, both of which dramatically reduce the annoying and harmful effects of glare. Iridium, however, also balances light transmission and has a cool mirror finish.

Zac Efron learns to ride with Oakley

The Oakley Learn to Ride event was held on Bondi Beach (Australia) on February 16 and was attended by a large number of celebrities, attracting mass media attention. Pro surfboarder Tom Whitaker and Layne Beachley were in attendance, along with Disney film stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.

The celebrity couple were mobbed by fans, all of whom had hoped to see the High School Musical star show off his surfing skills. But instead he waded into the water wearing an Oakley wetsuit and Frogskins sunglasses only to pose for photographs.

Oakley Frogskins is an iconic piece of pop culture, which was resurrected, in very limited numbers, by Oakley in 2007. The original tools that were used to make Frogskins sunglasses in the1980s are still being used to re-create this iconic design, which, once the tools stop working, will cease production. Needless to say these popular sunglasses won’t be around for long, if history repeats itself, or even long enough for you to discover them. This is one good thing that will not come to those who wait.

These special limited edition sunglasses are made from a lightweight synthetic (O Matter) that is impact resistance and provides all day long comfort. The Plutonite lenses are especially engineered to block all types of UV radiation, which when combined with High Definition Optics (HDO), an advanced form of Oakley technology, offer maximal clarity and vision for an exceptional point of view.

Zac Efron wears Oakley Frogskins with a Bronze polarised lens, which is an excellent all-purpose lens that excels in medium to bright light conditions. Oakley polarised lenses are excellent at cutting glare, as well as boosting colour contrast and depth perception. A full range of optional lens tints for Oakley Frogskins sunglasses are available, including Iridium and non-Iridium lenses.

Oakley Learn to Ride is in support of the OneSight Foundation, a family of charitable vision care programs dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education. The Rolling O Lab was situated by Bondi Beach during the event and encouraged radio listeners to come down and visit and drop off their old prescription and prescription sun eyewear for the OneSight Foundation, which are then rejuvenated and handed out across the world throughout developing countries. Sunglasses Shop customers can find out more information about Oakley Learn to Ride and the Onesight Foundation on the official Oakley website.
