Predecessors of the Correspondence include the likes of the Jupiter, Frogskin (John Mayer and Nicole Richie fan) and Felon. With the obvious classic 1950’s Wayfarer influence, the new Correspondence are by far Oakleys most fashion conscious frame for women. Not only high fashion at present, the timeless Wayfarer has been given the Oakley touch. Ladies, its time to step up and grab a pair before they all go!
So what’s new?
The modernised twist on these fun lovin' frames is the thick, horizontal brow bar, which takes inspiration from the visor style sunnies. As ever, Oakley have thrown colours out there. This time? Its pastel shades and what looks like perspex see-through bold colours. Not be done before, so a risky step? Possibly, but I think they work with this modern frame shape which screams cool. I think what’s great about these new Oakleys is they have matched their attention to technological detail with attention to designer detail and produced a range which lets face it, is shit hot. And finally, some unconventional styles for the girls!
Oakley have gone all out with colour. Either the dual colour frame or the bold see through style. Thats the beauty of this range; no two are the same. On the one hand you have black with hot pink stems, and on the other? Clear deep purple! Well I'm excited!
The metallic ‘O’ icons on the stems are matched with a stripe of colour on the hinge and the brow bar has a raised detail to add an extra textural touch. The Correspondence also have integrated hinge technology for a sleek look and to slide the sunnies on under your hat. Also preventing your sunnies getting stuck in your hair (Always a bonus) !
Trial and….. success!
So who was the lucky girl who got to road test these before they made their red carpet debut? You guessed it, yours truly! Now I’m bit of a sports/fashionista, so these suit me down to a T. They don’t possess an in-your-face sports style, but they encompass all of Oakleys technology in a sexy mod looking frame. I love them. And being an Oakley woman, I’m grateful they have finally produced a stylish frame. It will definitely widen their market. I know I’m going to be recommending them to the girls!
Right ok, so yeah they’re comfy. They don’t have ear socks, which is good, I actually prefer the fit to some of the uber sporty styles, its comfy, but laid back too. Hence they won’t fall off, but they wont give you a headache either.
As for appearance, I have the Baby Blue frame with white and silver accents. Smooth pastel colours makes them an outfit must!
And if you really wanna show off? Go polarised. If you aren’t sure whether or not to go polarised, well its entirely up to you. The polarised lens I would say is essential on sports models, but with lifestyle sunglasses its not so much so. However, if you want my advice, its always go polarised if you can afford to. The polarised lens is of far greater quality and provides more protection for your eyes.
Here comes the science bit....concentrate!
When it comes to technology, Oakley are overflowing with technical lingo and performance. But its not all talk, they really do deliver. Ill start you off with the ‘3 point fit.’ This is an Oakley standard, established as the benchmark for comfort, present across much of their range. It refers to the places in which the sunglasses touch your face, which must be minimal. These are on the nose bridge and on the ears. Great so you don’t get those embarrassing sunglass marks (not cool and definately not in keeping with your new Oakley look) !
Safety First
When it comes to safety, Oakley pretty much write the guidelines. Inevitably you’re playing strenuous sport they’re gonna fall off your face. Any regular pair of sunglasses? Well, you’re pretty much screwed. But not Oakley. They have covered the lenses with an anti-scratch coating for such, lets call them mishaps! Lenses also meet ANSI Z87.1 standards for impact resistance. Iin English? They wont break easily.
Then your eyes. They have a 100% UV filter to keep your eyes safe and use High Definition Optics (HDO’s), which between me and you is a bit of a fancy name for giving you sharp clear vision and definition of colour. Essential for us ladies, we don’t want to be squinting and encouraging those ugly creases round our eyes!
You know if you’re a Correspondence kinda person. We’re the cool laid back funky ones who find looking cool a breeze! As a great addition to your range of eighties/nineties/noughties wardrobe, these beauties suit almost every face shape. The new years collections from a range of designers are bringing out this same shape which was cemented back in the summer through numerous festival goers and trend setters.
Wear
Well, I think these are perfect day-in day-out wear sunglasses. They are quirky. Iif you’re the kind of person to purchase sunnies like this, you can get any colour because you’ll make them go with everything! I wouldn’t do anything too strenuous in them, but they are a good fit. They wont go with your business suit though, so don’t try it! All in all, if these are for you, they’ll be calling you from the moment you see them, so I won’t have needed to convince you!
For the rest of you? If you’re questioning the style then they aren’t for you! Go get some lessons in ‘cool’ and come back when you’re really ready for them!
Verdict
Strangely the word ‘correspondence’ can refer to similarity and conformity, to which these are quite the opposite! It would be more fitting to have named them dissension or antagonism for example! But, name aside, these are a winning pair of sunnies and I like them so much I'm going to be getting my sisters a pair each for Crimbo (lucky girls) !
