The Oakley Learn to Ride event was held on Bondi Beach (Australia) on February 16 and was attended by a large number of celebrities, attracting mass media attention. Pro surfboarder Tom Whitaker and Layne Beachley were in attendance, along with Disney film stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. The celebrity couple were mobbed by fans, all of whom had hoped to see the High School Musical star show off his surfing skills. But instead he waded into the water wearing an Oakley wetsuit and Frogskins sunglasses only to pose for photographs.
Oakley Frogskins is an iconic piece of pop culture, which was resurrected, in very limited numbers, by Oakley in 2007. The original tools that were used to make Frogskins sunglasses in the1980s are still being used to re-create this iconic design, which, once the tools stop working, will cease production. Needless to say these popular sunglasses won’t be around for long, if history repeats itself, or even long enough for you to discover them. This is one good thing that will not come to those who wait.
These special limited edition sunglasses are made from a lightweight synthetic (O Matter) that is impact resistance and provides all day long comfort. The Plutonite lenses are especially engineered to block all types of UV radiation, which when combined with High Definition Optics (HDO), an advanced form of Oakley technology, offer maximal clarity and vision for an exceptional point of view.
Zac Efron wears Oakley Frogskins with a Bronze polarised lens, which is an excellent all-purpose lens that excels in medium to bright light conditions. Oakley polarised lenses are excellent at cutting glare, as well as boosting colour contrast and depth perception. A full range of optional lens tints for Oakley Frogskins sunglasses are available, including Iridium and non-Iridium lenses.
Oakley Learn to Ride is in support of the OneSight Foundation, a family of charitable vision care programs dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education. The Rolling O Lab was situated by Bondi Beach during the event and encouraged radio listeners to come down and visit and drop off their old prescription and prescription sun eyewear for the OneSight Foundation, which are then rejuvenated and handed out across the world throughout developing countries. Sunglasses Shop customers can find out more information about Oakley Learn to Ride and the Onesight Foundation on the official Oakley website.
Oakley collection - Oakley Frogskins
Oakley Frogskins is back on Sunglasses Shop online. No Croak.
Should you ever be asked what a stylish frog wears, then before leaping in quickly with the normal answer – a stylish frog obviously wears a jumpsuit – consider the newest editions to the rare and highly coveted Frogskins sunglasses from Oakley.
From across the pond, and within our grasp for a short time, are the limited edition Oakley Frogskins, Oakley’s rare retro classic 80s-style sunglasses that are so popular with Oakley fans and Hollywood celebrities alike.
Usually only 3000 editions per colour are released at one time through key retailers such as Sunglasses Shop and some of these Frogskins, the fourth reincarnation of the cult sunglasses, take the classic style of the first generation 1985 Frogskins a step further. The 03-217, a limited edition 4-Legged Frogskins version features an extra pair of earstems in a coordinating colour, so you make one of the original classics even more innovative.
Sunglasses Shop is proud to currently stock some of the other ultra-rare limited editions too. The special release Frogskins Grenade 24-164 is the result of a collaboration with snowboarder Danny Kass, his company Grenade, and Oakley. Also available is the Frogskins 24-142, the limited edition Eric Koston signature series.
Only ever released once, when these rare sunglasses are gone they are gone forever and Oakley have already sold out of the 4-legged Frogskin 03-217 and the Frogskin Grenade 24-164. However these are still currently available at Sunglasses Shop.
In 1985 the Frogskins were released as performance sunglasses, with the usual cutting-edge Oakley frame and lens technology, and today’s versions are even more advanced. High Definition Optics and iridium lenses, sit alongside O-Matter frame material and the hinges on the latest models are bevelled rather than cylindrical in order to improve strength and flex.
But it is the style as much as the exclusivity that makes them the celebrity favourite. John Mayer, Kanye West, Hayden Panettiere, Elisha Cuthbert, Mary Kate Olsen are among the glamorous personalities that are found in the less glamorously named Frogskin.
The sunglasses are forged in the popular wayfarer style, are very lightweight and feature a stylish half-keyhole bridge design. The lenses are made with the usual Oakley substance – pure Plutonite – for great clarity and vision, and the temples feature a unique Oakley logo, a reminder of the Oakley of the 80s. Earlier this year British designer Paul Smith also came on board to create some wonderful Frogskins that were exclusive to Paul Smith shops.
If one of the many colours is what you require from your Frogskin, but you just cannot get your hands on a pair, then consider the Oakley Jupiter or the Jupiter XL. These are so very similar to the Frogskin and are available in the array of Oakley frame and lens combinations that has become synonymous with Oakley performance eyewear.
Oakley Frogskins are a fashion model with the Oakley reputation for performance enhancing eyewear technology. Oakley has said that with these new editions it resurrected the original tooling from the early 80s to produce new limited editions, giving us a chance to own a piece of history. If that history proves correct these popular sunglasses will not be around long enough for us to discover it for ourselves. Hurry.
