The all new Fuel Cell give us design the way only Oakley know how. Not afraid to push the boundaries of shape, technology and colour combinations, the Fuel Cell represent Oakley down to a T. Big, bold and lets face it, a little bit cocky.

 

Oakley Design Quirks

Aptly named Fuel Cell, after its predecessor; the Gascan, this new frame provides us with everything we would expect from Oakley. So how does this differ from the Gascan? Well the Fuel Cell is a more compact frame. The lens has taken a more boxed shape, complimented by the thick stems which are a continuation of the front eye area.

The Fuel Cell mean business, they are serious sports sunglasses. A seriously curved wrap ensures not only are your eyes protected from light rays at every angle, but they also protect from dust and dirt. Not to mention the overall look this wrap gives. Aside from being really sporty, the look also creates an air of mystery because you cant see the wearers eyes through the dark and mostly Iridium mirrored lenses.

This frame is so unique that Oakley even customised their logo specifically for this pair of sunglasses so these are individual Oakley’s that stand out from a crowd. Speaking of standing out fromt he crowd, just take a look at the clear with purple lenses. An absolute head turner which would stand out in any crowd, definately for those of you who are more, lets say, exhibitionist!

How about performance?

Plutonite lenses offer the ultimate in solar protection and are reinforced with an impact resistant coating showing their strength as well as great demeanour. It goes without saying they offer full UV protection and care for your eyes. The O-Matter frames guarantee you all day comfort and are especially lightweight so wont tire your face or ache round your temples. They also won’t snap or break easily as, although lightweight, the material is also durable yet strong. The thicker stems also ensure this means they are built to last.  

If you want a great lens which will guarantee the ultimate protection and look great, you want to go for an Iridium or polarised lens. Not only do these have HDO (High Definition Optics) performance optics, but give the upmost in clarity and will not optically distort like other polarised lenses on the curvature. They are perfect for any sport which requires a large peripheral vision and appropriate for those of you who really want to look the part.

Where to wear them

Yes the Fuel Cell don’t just look the part, but act it too. Lucky enough to have snapped up one of the first ever pairs developed, I’m smitten. I own a pair of the pure White and wear my Fuel Cells when I’m out on the bike. They are great because I can see all the way round, essential when you’re on the road. Seconding this, no dust or dirt gets into my eyes and the continuous frame slides perfectly under my helmet. In short? I wouldn’t leave home without them.

Perfectly engineered

As you are probably already aware, Oakley aren’t ones to fit in and follow the norm. And in vowing to push the boundaries of design and technology when it comes to sports, they have produced designs like this; the Fuel Cell, which is both technologically developed and looks like something from the future! They definitely provide the extra factor for those of you looking for something that little bit special for your sports interest this season.

I have a dedicated group of avid motorcyclist and the all own Oakleys of one kind or another. I will definitely be recommending these.
