The first thing that struck me when I saw the new Oakley Jawbone was not the striking new design or new hinge system but the awesome collection of colours. The black and green sunglasses have what can be described as the highest in contrast in colour possible available, but it works. We are not going to review these sunglasses as cycling performance sunglasses because they are Oakley and the amount of engineering on theses sunglasses, the years of development and the testing on the world's best athletes guarantees 100% perfection to a level never seen before. We are going to take a look at the style.

Oakley has sunglasses collections that cross over from sports to lifestyle. If you are looking for something in-between fashion and sports then the active collection is for you. Finally if you know the most sports you do is taking a stroll along the beach and you are more conscious on how you look then the lifestyle collection is definitely where to start looking.

These sunglasses are definitely not something that would fit into any lifestyle collection. I fact they scream sports eyewear. Unless you are planning an active cycling holiday then you need not pack your Jawbone Sunglasses.

Oakley when it comes to naming their eyewear historically have had competitions in house and giving a name to a pair of sunglasses that will probably be around for years to come is not an easy task. For the Jawbone however you can quite easily see how they came up with the name.

When you look at the best designs for sunglasses then start with the human face. You can borrow plenty of design ideas right there - but for fit then for sports eyewear you really need to pay attention.

The Jawbone sunglasses when you are wearing them become an extension of your face. With sports eyewear, especially where aerodynamics are concerned a snug fit is so important. The streamline design of course gives minimal drag as you would expect, but when on these sunglasses really fit well and are one of the most comfortable sunglasses I have worn. It is a shame that such a technically advanced pair of sunglasses can not really be used for everyday use because the fit is so good. When you are on a bike then these really do finish of your professional appearance. It is such a waste when you have spent loads on a streamlined helmet, a super light alloy bike and close fitting clothing to not have eyewear perfection, but now you can.

Will the Jawbone make my suitcase this year for holidays? Not unless I am planning a workout on a bike. But they will not leave my side when riding.

Oakley has created a versatile and striking pair of sunglasses in the form of the Jawbone. It’s the latest evolution of a coveted design with a frame like nothing you’ve ever seen before. As the Jawbone comes with interchangeable lenses, Oakley have created a switchlock system whereby the lower part of the rim opens to allow easy access for quick lens changing, allowing you to maintain optimal focus and vision in any lighting condition. There’s minimal handling involved, so dirty fingers don’t get all over the lens. The quick-release system closes with a cam that locks each lens securely in place.

Oakley have also engineered a pivoting system with a release mechanism that lets you remove and replace the nose piece with a different size to customize the fit. A comfortably secure fit is essential for athletic competition, so Oakley started this new design with the company’s legendary 3 point fit. Instead of hooking the ears like conventional frames, a 3 point fit ensures the frame touches the wearer only at the bridge of the nose and the sides of the head. Oakley combined the proprietary fit with specialized bridge geometry and strategically placed flex zones to give the frame a broad range of flexibility while directing stresses away from the lenses.
