Oakley Oil Rig... We love 'em

At first glimpse the Oakley Oil Rig looks chunky and sporty and not the typical thing I would expect to see from Oakley. It’s a bit bolder shape wise than what we’re used to with its irregular arm but I can honestly say I love it!
It’s a cutting edge frame that really has the x factor, but does it have talent?

As with all Oakley sunglasses, the Oil Rig has an unbeatable blend of science and art. The list seems endless when we delve into all the hard work Oakley have gone to, to make these durable, fit perfectly and still (most importantly in my book) look good!

So where do we start?

As you may already be aware, with Oakley there is no messing around and they certainly don’t do things by halves; you’ll be amazed to learn that the lenses are made out of plutonite! Oakley also offers lenses that are made from Iridium and those that are polarised, in other words they filter out 99.9 percent of glare from reflective surfaces without subjecting your eyes to the haze and optical distortion found with ordinary lenses. So when you’re out gallivanting in the great outdoors, the suns glare won’t impair your vision. I’ve also found they’re a great advantage in a sporting scenario if you have polarised lenses and your opponent doesn’t! It’s a sneaky advantage that could mean the difference between a win and a loss!

For truer colour perception in bright sun, I have found the Warm Grey, Black Iridium or Grey Polarized lens most effective. The Grey lens is optimized for medium-bright sun so is best suited for use in that condition and for enhanced visual contrast that boosts depth perception in bright sun, I would advise the Tungsten Iridium or Bronze Polarized lens.

With the Oil Rig, you’ll be please to know that geometry has been considered whilst making these frames so that the Oakley Oil Rig fits every face flawlessly. They are designed so that they curve parallel to your face to insure precise fit that will not protrude at the sides. The design also incorporates sculpturally integrated hinges that are engineered with dual cam action; the linear ear stems also provide a comfortable and secure grip. I found these particularly comfy to wear and they fitted my face snugly, which is exactly what you need with sporting eyewear.
But Oakley doesn’t stop there! Oakley use their H.D.O’s, that’s high definition optics to you and me, meaning that even when the lenses are curved, you still get perfect clarity and vision that is never impaired, only improved, the lenses also exceed ANZI Z87.1 optical and basic impact standards. And that’s just the lenses! The frames are made with Oakley’s O Matter frame material meaning they are ultra light weight and extremely durable.

When the Oil Rig was created, it looks as though Oakley has banned conventional thinking. The Oil Rig comes with redesigned stem architecture that puts the icon of innovation in the crosshairs of dimensional grooves. The cut away arms add to the Oil Rig's artistic sculptured design and feature Oakley's universal O logo on both arms.

So what do we think of the overall look of the Oakley Oil Rig?

Oakley makes no secret of the fact they are a sports focused brand and this is clear to see with the Oil Rig frames, they have gone all out to make these frames as contemporary and trendy as possible whilst maintaining the sporting theme. As you can see, they have used a visor lens, which looks awesome, but also offers the best protection; masking the entire eye area. The first thing that struck me aesthetically with the Oil Rig had to be the arms! It’s a contrast from anything I have seen before and reminded me a bit of Lego, the way all the segments fit together and tessellate. The Oakley Oil Rig is a real winner in my eyes, its classic and sporty looking yet has a modern twist that makes these frames unique and very stylish. Top marks all round!
