Ralph Lauren was born in the Bronx, New York City in 1939, Ralph Lauren (was Lifshitz) came from humble beginnings. He attended the Baruch School of Business and Civic Administration of the City University of New York, this was not to Lauren's liking and dropped out after two years. From there he served time in the army and when he returned, he worked as a salesman for Brooks Brothers. Ralph Lauren's first big break was in 1967 where he opened a necktie store that sold his own designs, called 'Polo'. With the financial backing of Norman Hilton, he later purchased the name Hilton. Ralph Lauren began as a popular brand amongst clothing and has since gained high credibility world wide allowing the brand to expand and sell their sumptuous sunglass collection.
