Sunglasses design was changed forever when Ray-Ban created the Original Wayfarer in 1952. The trapezoidal shape seemed to court danger, the style was unmistakeable. Wayfarer is a classic of the design world and an eyewear icon. Excepting the aviator no other style is as recognised or as replicated as Ray-Ban’s 2140.Today’s 2140 is based on the same specifications as the original frames. Lenses are mineral glass, the distinctive frame is acetate with those distinctive tapered arms. The Wayfarer was a radical departure from the metal frames of the time, drawing on new moulding technology.
