Rui Costa has two things on his side that mark him out from the rest. His youth is one of them. His pure determination and raw talent is the other. OK, strictly that's three. But it's tough to sum the prodigious Portuguese in a few words. He's constantly evolving and pushing himself to new heights.

Take the 2012 Tour de Suisse as an example. The Adidas ace was eager to claim glory in the mountains, and that's exactly what he did. His all-rounder status saw him steal a march on Frank Schleck and take victory. Portugal's president Cavaco Silva even congratulated the star personally.

Having made his pro debut in 2007, Rui Costa wasted no time in announcing his arrival. He quickly announced his arrival with a win in the Giro delle Regioni in Italy. From then on, more success has followed, with wins in the Vuelta Chihuahua Internacional and the Four Days of Dunkirk. Rui Costa signed with Movistar in 2011, and has continued his winning ways.
