Carlos Sastre Candil is a Spanish professional road bicycle racer and champion of the 2008 Tour de France. His dramatic solo attack on l’Alpe d’Huez sprung him forever clear of the role of super domestique and into the area of tour winners.

With seven finishes in the overall top-five on the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana throughout his career he was always close to that place anyway, but his attack on l’Alpe d’Huez will be remembered as one of the most lethal and effective in recent Tour de France history. In 2009, Sastre took third overall in the Giro d’ Italia and won stage 16 and stage 19.
