Wiggins Doubles Up

Bradley Wiggins has confirmed himself as the favourite for the Tour de France by winning the Criterium de Dauphine. The British rider's vision was never in question, thanks to his Oakley sunglasses. And his poise and determination were outstanding too, as he sealed his second Dauphine win with apparent ease.

Oakley-backed rider Wiggins was convincing throughout the race, having taken the lead on the first stage. Resounding victories on stages four and stage six proved decisive in defending his 2011 Dauphine title. Wiggins has now written his name in the history books as the first rider to win the Paris-Nice, Tour of Romandie and Dauphine titles in one season. It's a historic treble that's made his rivals sit up and take notice ahead of the Tour de France.

Wiggins told Sky Sports News: "People talk a lot about the Tour de France, but to win Paris-Nice and the Dauphine in the same year is massive. So, whatever happens at the Tour, I can already be satisfied."

With the Tour now looming large, Wiggins moved to praise Oakley-backed colleague Cadel Evans. He also brushed off the dreaded favourite tag. "I don't think I'm the favourite for the Tour but I am one of the favourites for sure. We've seen this week that I'm not the only one. Cadel Evans is also going well", Wiggins told the official Tour de France website. With Andy Schleck ruled out of the Tour and his fine form, it's impossible to overlook Wiggins right now.
