Speed and resilience. Two things British sprinter Carl Pickering isn't short of. The Milton Keynes-based star has enjoyed some stellar moments in his career. And we get the feeling that there's still more to come.
A late comer to sprinting, Oakley man Pickering didn't even start sprinting until he was thirteen. In his first race, he broke the school record. This obviously filled the fledgling star with confidence, and it wasn't long before Pickering made an impact on the world stage. He chose the World Youth Championships in 2003 to announce himself, coming from nowhere to take the bronze medal in the 100 metres.
Pickering's form in the 60 metres is superb too. Take his performance at the European Indoor Championships in 2007 as an example. On home turf, Pickering ran superbly to win silver in front of the jubilant Birmingham crowd. Oh, and if he isn't taking the individual honours, he's also starring for Britain's 4X100 metre relay team.
