Winter X-Games 2011 Ski Highlights
Winter X-Games 2011 provided some memorable moments in snow sports, here's the best of the best...
The Women's Ski Slopestyle finals saw Kaya Turski throw down an impressive first run that set the pace throughout the final and walking away with the gold. Keri Herman put Turski under pressure with her final run but it wasn't quite enough to deny Turski victory. Oakley star Grete Eliassen managed an impressive third place overall.
Next up on the action-packed ski schedule was the Women's Ski SuperPipe final. Sarah Burke took the prize, but all the talk surrounded defending champion Jen Hudak, who fell on the final run.
Hudak had to go big to win, and she nearly became the first woman to land a 1080 in a superPipe event, but she scuffed the landing and finished fifth. Brita Sigourney finished second ahead of Roz Groenewoud, who placed third.

Virtually unknown fifteen year-old Torin Yater-Wallace blasted his way to the silver medal in the Men's SuperPipe Ski final, ahead of one of the pre-contest favourites Simon Dumont, who had to settle for third. Youngster Yater-Wallace couldn't quite stop Kevin Rolland, who did enough to secure victory.
Sammy Carlson dominated the Men's Ski Slopestyle Finals, and deservedly walked away with the gold medal. Carlson managed a bronze in 2010, and two medals back in 2007 and 2009, but this was his first gold at the Winter X-Games. Adidas rider Russ Henshaw had to be content with second and Nowegian star Andreas Hatveit sealed third place.
Alex Schlopy reigned supreme in the Men's Ski Big Air finals, seeing off strong competition from Bobby Brown to snatch the crown. Bobby Brown was injured earlier in the day, but came back stronger to grab the silver medal. Schlopy's fellow Oakley team-mate Sammy Carlson turned in a solid performance to finish third.

Elsewhere, the Women's Skier X saw Canadian starlet Kelsey Serwa crash over the finish line to take gold. Serwa smashed her face off the piste and was left bloodied and disorientated, before being helped up by second-placed Orphiele David. Eighteen year-old Swiss sensation Fanny Smith took third place.
In the men's Skier X final, the furore that surrounded the decision by the FIS to host a World Cup event during the same week of the Winter X-Games marred the competition. Plenty of world-class riders still turned up, and John Teller upset favourite Chris Del Bosco to take the win. Del Bosco finished a close second and Casey Puckett finished third.
