Winter X-Games 2012 Ski Highlights

Skiing at Aspen proved emotional for many, with much of the global community still mourning the loss of legendary rider Sarah Burke. Thursday's opener saw Kaya Turski seal victory seal the first medal of the tournament when she won the Women's Slopestyle.

Turski impressed, and finish ahead of Devin Logan and Anna Segal, who finished second and third respectively. In-form Bolle superstar Ashley Battersby was unfortunate to miss out on a medal, finishing fifth.

Tom Wallisch had to work hard to deny seventeen year-old sensation Nick Goepper the gold in the Men's Slopestyle final. Unknown pro Goepper performed brilliantly, and shocked the opposition to snatch second place ahead of third-placed Andreas Hatveit.

The Women's SuperPipe, which Sarah Burke, was due to compete in, was won by Burke's fellow Canadian Roz Groenewoud. Maddie Bowman impressed with a second-placed finish and Brita Sigourney turned in a solid performance to take third.

There was a huge shock in the Men's SuperPipe final when huge Winter X-Games favourite Kevin Rolland missed out on a place ion the podium. The Frenchman looked to be struggling slightly as David Wise stepped up to take gold. Noah Bowman managed an unexpected second place, and up-and-coming superstar, Torin Yater-Wallace, snatched bronze.

The Big Air contest saw some superb skiing, with pre-tournament favourite Bobby Brown taking the win. Second place fell to Kai Mahler as Oakley pro Jossi Wells sealed third place.

Chris De Bosco ensured there wasn't to be any upsets in the Men's Skier X final by winning the gold. Slovenian star Filip Flisar grabbed second whilst Dave Duncan finished third. The Women's Skier X was won by Merte Gjefsen, as Hedda Berntsen finished second and Jenny Owens nicked the final place on the podium.
