Winter X-Games 2012 Snowboard Highlights

The snowboarding events all started on Thursday 26th January with the Snowboard Street, which was won by Forest Bailey. Second place went to Ryan Paul, with Nick Visconti taking the bronze.

Having won in the O'Neill Evolution Big Air contest in Switzerland, superstar Mark McMorris was the man in form coming into the Winter X-Games 2012. The Canadian didn't disappoint either, taking glory in the Men's Big Air. McMorris's Oakley team-mates Torstein Horgmo and Seb Toutant grabbing second and third places respectively.

Mark McMorris followed up his success in the Big Air with a victory in the Men's Slopestyle. McMorris finished ahead of Arnette pro Sage Kostenburg, who took the silver. Finnish star Peetu Piiroinen had to settle for third.

pro Jamie Anderson ran out as the winner in the Women's Slopestyle final. Anderson fought off the challenge from last year's shock winner Enni Rukajarvi, who had to make do with second place this year. Kjersti Oestgaard Buaas managed to take third. Jamie Anderson has now made the podium on every occasion since her 2007 debut.

As predicted, Kelly Clark wiped out all chance of an upset spectacularly. She took her tenth competition gold medal in a row. The last time Clark didn't win in a SuperPipe event was on the Winter Dew Tour back in December 2010. Elena Hight was her closest challenger, finishing second as Hannah Teter sealed third.

After 2011's poor fifth place finish, Men's Snowboard X legend Nate Holland resumed normal service in the final. Last year's gold medalist Nick Baumgartner managed second place, whilst Jayson Hale picked up the bronze. The Women's Snowboard X title went to Dominique Maltais, with second place going to Alexandra Jekova. Maelle Ricker finished third.

This year's games saw history made as Shaun White threw down the best run ever seen in a major competition to take the Men's SuperPipe gold. White scored a never-before-seen 100 out of 100 score to take gold, becoming the first rider to ever win five gold consecutive medals in the snowboard SuperPipe. Iouri Podlatchikov sealed second place and Ryo Aono finished third.

Oakley legend White also became only the third athlete in all sports to win five gold medals in a row at the Winter X-Games.
