Base Curve

Base Curve – this is the term given to the front curve of a lens. The higher the number of the base curve, the harder it is to have a prescription lens fitted. Most wrap-around sunglass styles have a base curve of at least 8 which is usually too much for Rx lenses. Base curve also refers to the curve of the human eye so it is important when having prescription lenses made and contacts as they need to fit the curve of the eye. This human eye base curve ranges from 8 to 9.5.
