Frames

Frames � sunglass frames vary greatly in terms of size, colour, technology etc. They are usually made from plastic or metal and manufacturers use various techniques to make them suitable for their purpose. For example, sunglasses designed for sporting activities often have a wraparound frame which fits firmly around the wearer�s head making them less likely to fall off. These are usually made from Nylon, making them quite flexible and light-weight. Some companies, such as Oakley also offer frames which can fit interchangeable lenses. This is ideal for some sporting activities as the wearer can choose between different coloured lenses depending on which activity they are doing. Accessories can also be attached to sunglasses frames, such as floating straps so that it is not as easy to lose them when taking part in activities such as sailing or surfing.

Oakley�s Thump and ORokr Sunglasses have MP3 players built into the frames so that the wearer can listen to music while they wear them. The controls and technology is in the frame, and ear plugs are attached.

Some sunglass models are semi-rimmed so they just have the frame around the top of the lenses. This enables the wearer to have a clearer view as it is not obstructed by the lower frame. Others are rimless and so they don�t have any frame around the lenses at all.
