Photochromic Photochramatic Photochromic/Photochramatic – this is a technology in which lenses react to changes in UV light and become lighter or darker to suit the conditions. This technology was developed by the Corning Company in the 1960’s and relies on a chemical reaction within molecules on the lens. The molecules change shape when they react to UV light and they absorb more light, causing them to darken. In the absence of UV light these molecules remain transparent and do not absorb the light so they cause the lenses to be lighter. These lenses work very quickly under normal conditions but sometimes the chemical reaction does not occur.
