In 1990, Tom Ford begun working for Gucci as a women's wear designer. In 2002, after realising his potential, the fashion house promoted him to the position vice chairman of the managment board for the Gucci group.

Then in 2004, Tom resigned from Gucci following a buyout from Pinault Printemps Redoute. Exactly one year after his dramatic departure from Gucci the designer debuted TOM FORD, the brand. Like no other deisgner before him, Tom Ford began with eyewear, producing and distributing optical frames and sunglasses under the TOM FORD brand.
