Oliver Peoples Sunglasses Oliver Peoples Zooey RBR |
When a celebrity teams up with a designer to produce a range of clothing or accessories its success is a matter of personal opinion. It’s often rare for such collaborations to go really well but if the pre-sales hype surrounding quirky singer-actress Zooey Deschanel and star styling sunglasses brand Oliver Peoples were anything to go by this one would be a triumph.
More than a year after its launch, the hype has proved true and the Oliver Peoples/Zooey Deschanel team has created one of the most popular sunglasses frames to own this year. As seen here on Kim Cattrall, the adorable 1950s Oliver Peoples Zooey is a Wayfarer-inspired limited edition frame that will have you walking in the footsteps of the classic Hollywood stars of the 1950s.
For this reason the Zooey is the foremost choice for stars of the current Hollywood set, and Oliver Peoples claims that its core DNA lies with Los Angeles, where the fashion obsession is for all things retro and similarly the theme of Oliver Peoples sunglasses, which are inspired by fashions of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Of course Zooey Deschanel’s quirky nature is captured in the very essence of the glasses. Fog over the lenses with your breath and the imprint of Zooey’s lips appears, pursed in a kiss. The accessories do not go unnoticed either; the cloth and case both feature the starlet’s signature and lips motif, and the cloth resembles a cocktail napkin; each one designed to show the fun and sexy side of Zooey herself.
Zooey lenses are of CR-39, one of the most advanced polymers used in lenses available, and the Oleophobic coating repels water, oil, fingerprints and dust - Maximum performance and trend-setting style in a beautifully handcrafted frame.
This year Zooey Deschanel has been turning into something of a style icon, with her cool quirky look which takes inspiration from such fashion heavyweights as Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is considered one of the most iconic images of 20th century cinema and the influence of her style on Zooey Deschanel is obvious. This naturally seeps in to the design of the Zooey frame and throughout the film Hepburn wears a similarly-styled pair of sunglasses, often mistaken for a Ray-Ban wayfarer.
In the campaign for the Zooey sunglasses, Deschanel told of how she would not want to be involved with a product collaboration unless she actually loved it, and she loves Oliver Peoples glasses. And so it seems does everyone else. Chic and mysterious; smart, sassy and sophisticated; the girl or the glasses? Most believe both.

Chanel Sunglasses Chanel 5128 Bordeaux |
Modern and poetic, Chanel chains cleverly recall the emblematic codes of the French fashion house - in fact they’re almost de rigueur if you want in on the Hollywood A-list. Just ask supermodel Daisy Lowe.
In January 2010, the model stunned onlookers at the launch of her Swarovski jewellery collection with her latest body art; a subtle garter of interlocking double Cs – the internationally famous Chanel logo. The chain tattoo forms part of the Chanel transferrable tattoos collection, one of many surprises at the spring/summer 2010 fashion show in Paris.
Interlaced with silver or gold, leather or ink, or even acetate, Chanel chains form an elegant bond. Carry Chanel 5128 sunglasses in Bordeaux, as seen here on Jamie Winstone, and you’ll be swamped with invites to the most grand and handsome events.
Interlacing metal chain detailing like that of the Chanel quilted handbag studs both arms. Always a frontrunner in fashion polls, small interlacing double C logos decorate the arms and the inside stems for a luxe look. This vintage inspired frame is forged in the shape of the eternal wayfarer, giving nod to days gone by – when the perpetually stylish Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly were the greatest fashion icons of the big screen. Fifties sunglasses are as fashionable today as they were back then and the classic, yet modern shape of these sunglasses would make a fantastic edition to any wardrobe.
Though considerably more expensive than Chanel transfer and spray-on tattoos, Chanel 5128 is by far the most wearable option of this trend, so it doesn’t come as that a big of a surprise that these sunnies are also the stylish wear of Lindsay Lohan and Kristen Dunst – who even has a pet French Bulldog named Coco Chanel. Even better still, they won’t come out of the wash.

Oliver Peoples Sunglasses Oliver Peoples Rees Black |
Setting the tone for the upcoming season are Shirley Manson and Elijah Wood. Stars of the 2010 Oliver Peoples campaign, the influential tastemakers follow the greatest fashion icons in film - Robert Evans and Zooey Deschannel, who featured in a short storyline film shot by highly acclaimed film director Autumn de Wilde. So successful was the storyline that sales sky-rocketed overnight.
Expressing his admiration for fashion photographer Autumn de Wilde and Oliver Peoples in a press release, Elijah Wood said: ‘I was eager to be involved in a project that had so many dimensions,’
‘As someone who wears and appreciates great eyewear, I couldn’t ask for a better brand to align with. And, working with Autumn, you know exactly what you are signing up for – a creative journey with a goldmine at the end.’
His flame-haired co-star looks stunning in one of several shots, for which she wears a little black dress and Oliver Peoples sunglasses, as seen here on Kate Beckinsale. Inspired by oversized rectangular shapes made popular in the seventies by Tina Turner and Jackie Onassis, Rees is a bold and glamorous female frame. The large rectangular frame nestles against her fiery tresses for a look that is dramatically edgy. The Scottish native also appears in a red dress while standing inside a swimming pool. Sipping from a tall glass of bubbly champagne, the singer seductively peers through the lenses of an elegant metal wire frame - Oliver Peoples Sacha.
Sacha is a feminine sunglass that features delicate pearl cloisonné along the top bar and temple. The multi-tonal lenses compliment her pale skin tone while matching coloured temple tips provide a polished and decorative look.
Together, Autumn de Wilde, Elijah Wood and Shirley Mason form a provocative ad campaign consistent with the Oliver Peoples brand image, whose 1950s and 1960s inspired eyewear has been a long time favourite of many popular celebrities and fashionistas around the world. And one that is as equally renowned for its celebrity campaigns.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses Ray-Ban 4141 Black |
Closely associated with intellectual thinkers and politicians, round sunglasses were rarely worn by those noted for their fashion sense – unless you count John Lennon, whose granny style sunglasses were snapped up at auction for an estimated £1million in August 2007.
Several years later, and the circular sunglass is a defining element of celebrity fashion, appearing on the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Kylie Minogue. The Australian pop singer’s sunglasses are among our most anticipated trends of the summer. Retro and round, these sunglasses are as fashionable today as they were in the 1960s.
Flattering to men and women Ray-Ban 4141 is a combination of the iconic Wayfarer and Clubmaster models, which defined the look of 2009. A combination of the two, the 4141 has a large frame shape and is more angular than those of the 1960s. With subtle pin detailing and Ray-Ban logos to complete the look, these hot property shades come in a number of ways to choose from including red, white and black and a polarised lens option.
Polarised Ray-Ban models come with an anti-reflective coating for the ultimate in protection. Glare is a light within your field of vision that is brighter than your eyes can comprehend. The result of light waves bouncing off of shiny and reflective surfaces such as water and metal. The anti-reflective coating eliminates glare for clearer and sharper vision, enabling you to see past the white light. Ray-Ban 4141 model black polarised has the letter ‘P’ directly etched onto the lens to distinguish them from non-polarised Ray-Ban models.
Mary Kate was first seen wearing a pair of round sunglasses at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, while Lady GaGa has been spotted wearing them all over the place (including her music video Paparazzi). But there is no obvious source for the revival other than being retro, savvy and cool. No longer cool to be square, it’s time to downsize from oversized squares and embrace the little round frame.

Oakley Sunglasses Oakley M Frame Sweep Black |
Matt Damon stars as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller in new film Green Zone, a rogue US Army officer who must wade through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil as he hunts for weapons of mass destruction in an unstable region.
He goes about his important mission wearing Oakley M Frame sunglasses, which Oakley calls a perfect cinematic representation of the Oakley spirit.
‘There may not be a more perfect cinematic representation of the Oakley spirit than Matt Damon’s performances in the edge-of-your-seat triumvirate of Bourne movies. Car crashes, beat-downs, shooting bad guys, running his tail off…the guy is just fierce.’
M Frame is made of lightweight and stress resistant O Matter frame material, especially engineered for comfort and performance. Keeping you cool when the heat is on, Unobtainium frame components increase their grip with moisture and help wick away sweat.
High Definition Optics (HDO) opens up your point of view, setting M Frame apart from ordinary sunglasses. HDO is part of a distilled lens material (Plutonite) and can only be found in Oakley products.
A single Plutonite lens provides your eyes with the best protection by filtering 100 percent of all UVA, UVB and UVC rays and harmful blue light. High Energy Visible wavelengths (HEV) has been linked to several forms of eye damage, which is why Plutonite lens material is designed to block HEV for up to 400 nanometres (nm).
In the world of athletics - and action movies - the attitude behind these sunglasses is vital. These sunglasses are cool and assertive - just like a pair of Oakley sunglasses should be. And if you’re still wearing last summers sunglasses, this is your style intervention.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses Ray-Ban 3025 Aviator Arista |
For aviation the 1920s was a decade of remarkable advances. But with the development of new aeroplanes that could fly higher and higher came altitude-related problems. Pilots were suffering from headaches and nausea because of high level glare. In 1929, the US army asked Ray-Ban for a new type of eyewear that would protect pilots from glare at high altitudes. The company succeeded and the Ray-Ban anti-glare eyewear was born. The first model went on sale to the public in 1936, a plastic frame with the classic Aviator shape, and has since remained as a world wide fashion staple.
During the early years, the functional aspect of the new eyewear was pushed to the foreground, targeting sports enthusiasts and lovers of the outdoors. Before later being conceived as a fashion accessory, because of sunglasses being used in the film industry. Easy to wear with a simple design, sunglasses were no longer just an object of practicality.
In 1953 in wake of the wayfarer, Ray-Ban developed a new type of lens technology. It was called G-15, a light grey lens that transmits 15 percent of all visible light for equal colour, and pushed technology to the forefront.
Ray-Ban has offered technologically advanced sunwear to protect our eyes from the sun for more than 70 years, but today’s modern advancements enable them to do even more. Not content with making its mark as the global leader in premium eyewear, the brand now makes history in other ways.
To solidify their reputation as the pioneer of lenses the company has launched Ray-Ban 8041, home to the world’s first ever gradient polarised lens. Up to 50 percent lighter than those made from metal or steel, the titanium aviator is as strong as it is light. Made to withstand years of wear, the 8041 has an incredible resistance to weight ratio and provides longer lasting durability.
Timelessness and originality are the definitive of the 8041and the original aviator. Both with teardrop shaped lenses placed inside a metal wire frame, and a Ray-Ban signature logo on a single lens and adjustable silicone nose pads.
Sales of the Ray-Ban aviator increased by up to 40 percent after Tom Cruise immortalised the design in the American film Top Gun in 1986. Tom Cruise may not be reprising his role as Maverick for Top Gun II, but this Top Gun remake is still sure to be a hit with fashion fans and movie goers.

Bvlgari Sunglasses Bvlgari 8031B Fireworks Special Edition Glossy Black |
Bvlgari presents special limited edition Fireworks sunglasses, where breathtaking beauty meets the luxury of the finest and most sophisticated materials. This stunning female accessory is sheathed in Swarovski crystals at the temple - in the shape of a dandelion clock - creating the ultimate in stylish luxury.
The magnificent Italian jeweller has achieved world wide acclaim for its special limited edition models. Among them are those from the Bvlgari Serpenti collection that draws inspiration from the power and dynamism of the serpent.
Destined to become the new icon of Bvlgari design, the sinuous and flexible form of the creature lends itself throughout the Bvlgari collections. The serpent has always been a constant presence in Mediterranean jewellery and coils at the temple of these magnificent sunglasses (Bvlgari 8056B, as shown below). The body is composed of a series of individual metal components, simulating the scales of the serpent’s skin. These elements form a double coil studded with Swarovski crystals, which is surmounted by a stylised, bejewelled head. The luminosity of the crystals creates an exceptionally wonderful effect.
Bvlgari 8056B comes in several enriched colours featuring different coloured gemstones. On 8056B in cocoa, for example, silver metal is juxtaposed with an unusual array of black Swarovski stones like that of the Onyx variety. The collection also offers the serpent motif in gold metal and clear crystals.
The Serpenti collection draws inspiration from ancient Greek mythology and history. The serpent is a creature whose unique characteristics have long fascinated the imagination of Bvlgari and features in virtually every culture around the world, such as that of the Aztecs and the Egyptians. They believe that its continuous skin shedding was a symbol of fertility, regeneration, resurrection and immortality. And in Egyptian mythology, the goddess of maternity and fertility (Isis) has a particularly strong connection to the image of the snake.
Every component of the Serpenti collection is designed and crafted down to the finest detail, so that every individual sunglass is a perfect expression of the sophisticated, contemporary style that is the defining element of the Bvlgari brand.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses Ray-Ban Outdoorsman Craft Collection Shiny Gold Polarised |
The Ray-Ban Craft collection features one of the most time-honoured Ray-Ban models - the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman - with hand made leather applied to the temple tips and the brow.
Craft Outdoorsman is perfectly in tune with today’s colourful trends. Similar to the Ray-Ban Aviator 3025, Outdoorsman is enhanced with a contrasting metal brow adorned with decadent deer leather that has been applied by hand. The detailed hand stitched leather brow bar creates a more intense focus on the overall shape says Ray-Ban, but retains the same iconic look and feel created by the teardrop lens shape.
Outdoorsman is a unisex style that would look equally stylish on Tom Cruise, as apposed to his wife Katie Holmes. Feature Craft Outdoorsman colours include arista, silver and shiny gold, as seen here on Katie Holmes. RB lens initials polish off the look.
Ray-Ban Outdoorsman Craft Shiny Gold Polarised features revolutionary Ray-Ban polarisation technology. Ray-Ban polarised sunglasses have the letter ‘P’ directly laser-etched onto the lens to set them apart from non polarised frame styles. They provide the best protection by filtering up to 100 percent of UV rays and harmful blue light. In addition, polarised sunglasses also block virtually all reflected light waves (glare) to prevent potential nausea and probable headaches - because your sunglasses serve a different purpose out on the golf course, then when you’re on a fishing trip. Each lens is extremely strong and resistant and is able to withstand the Drop Ball test –a 5/8 inch steel ball dropped onto the lens from a height of 50 metres.
The Ray-Ban aviator is one of the brand’s most iconic models and is now being offered in a unique and inimitable look, which is also offered in the way of Craft Wings and Craft Caravan. Each and every piece is painstakingly hand stitched for a look of unparalleled beauty that you will want to wear for years to come. One of the most celebrated styles in Ray-Ban history now takes on a quality of alluring elegance with luxurious aesthetic details in a rich colour palette. Luxury leather goods as you have never seen them before.

Christian Dior Sunglasses Dior Delicacy Dark Havana |
Vintage styling and a glamorous look is what defines the Dior sunglasses collection. Inspired by the creative heritage of the brand, the sunglasses are generous in size and remain loyal to the subtle charm and elegance of the fashion house.
With the Dior Delicacy sophisticated lines in vintage styling and haute couture trimming have produced a unique pair of sunglasses that are draped in Swarovski crystals for the glamorous look that has come to characterise Dior sunglasses.
Christian Dior was master at creating shapes and silhouettes and to this tradition Maison Dior has remained true. This delicacy’s temples are adorned with a crystal motif, like a piece of fine spun lace made of faceted Swarovski and seemingly as if crafted from the spirit of a fairy-tale.
Only 3500 of the mouth-wateringly titled Dior Delicacy have been made, and Sunglasses-shop is one of a small handful of outlets where this, the centrepiece frame for Dior’s 2010 sunglasses collection, can be bought. Each pair has ‘Delicacy’ and its unique limited edition number engraved on the inside temple in a beautiful flowing script. The gradient lenses add a dreamy quality to these inimitable frames.
The Delicacy follows last year’s centrepiece frame the Dior Acapulco, one of the most glamorous pair of sunglasses ever created in the ateliers of Dior. The Acapulco is a beautifully sculpted visor; on each arm is an array of layered acetate, and just like the Dior Delicacy, adorned with Swarovski crystals.
Dior eyewear has a charming style and the Delicacy represents this perfectly. These exceptional sunglasses have a mystifying elegance found in no other current frame. Dior has created another unparalleled pair of sunglasses, and with its fine crystals, sophisticated lines and vintage traits, these beautiful frames seduce and beguile any who discover them.

Persol Sunglasses Persol 0649 Black |
Steve McQueen was the highest-paid movie star of his time, a 21st century icon with a rebellious nature that matched up to his onscreen persona and earned him the nickname 'the king of cool.' Together with his natural, yet distinctive all American style and no-nonsense personality, Steve McQueen soon became the style icon of his time, and in ours.
Steve McQueen took classic American sportswear and turned it on its head by rewarding various pieces with a rugged, debonair edge. His hallmark ensemble was comprised of aviator sunglasses, well-tailored suits, zip-up windbreakers and polo shirts, plus denim, denim and more denim (a hot trend for 2010)
Those who dress, walk and talk the McQueen way will already own an every-day uniform of blue wash jeans, crisp white t-shirts and an all important leather jacket. Another quintessential Steve McQueen accessory is the Persol 0649 aviator, an absolute must-have for those looking to convey the ulta-cool style that Steve McQueen is favoured for - suitable for light riding, even if you don't intend on hoping on a motorcycle anytime soon.
Persol 0649 shades are based on the same model from The Thomas Crown Affair and score full marks in the style stakes. The tradition, quality and style of the design are the result of a series of patents, quality materials and workmanship, as well as the magic and charm of a silver screen icon. While they are clearly a life-long classic, these rock steady shades won't look out of place in a busy urban environment and exude masculine sex appeal in true McQueen style when teamed with the simple basics.
Persol 0649 sunglasses are truly special thanks to an exclusive system built within the stem. The system aims to reduce pressure on the head from the arms by allowing the sunglasses to naturally adapt to the shape of your head. The Meflecto system involves the placement of nylon or metal cylinders into the acetate stem, intersecting them with a flexible wire of harmonic steel using a well-studied procedure. Ten additional working processes are required in order to create the interior skeleton in comparison to a normal pair of sunglasses, which is precisely why Persol sunglasses cost slightly more than you average pair of sunnies. But as they say, you get what you pay for.
For most men, and even some women, Persol sunglasses are the answer due to their longevity and deep rooted association with the movie industry. The word Persol translates as 'for sun' in Italian and as the brand name implies, the eyewear-house sticks to the basics in terms of style. Persol sunglasses never compromise on style or practicality. They are a harmonious balance of the two.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses Ray-Ban 4141 Black Polarised |
The look of 2009 was very much defined by the Ray-Ban (2140) Wayfarer and Ray-Ban (3016) Clubmaster. A combination of the two, Ray-Ban model 4141 has the sculpted temples of the original wayfarer and the iconic lenses of the mythical Clubmaster. This year, however, little round sunglasses such as these are in and are among the anticipated trends of the summer.
Round sunglasses last appeared as a fashion statement in the 1960s, when they were a defining element of hippie style. Throughout the years circular sunglasses have been closely associated with intellectual thinkers and rarely those noted for their innate fashion sense, unless you count John Lennon.
Yet something about the style has clicked with designer sunglass makers, who all seem to have come to the same conclusion – round sunglasses are unquestionably cool.
However, round sunglasses are not face friendly and usually look best on those who have strong jaw lines. But 4141 is slightly larger and more angular, with the stems positioned higher up on the frame, and so is much more flattering.
There is no obvious source for the revival other than style soothsayers Mary-Kate Olsen and Lady GaGa. Mary Kate was first seen wearing a pair of round sunglasses at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, while Lady GaGa has been spotted wearing them all over the place (including her music video Paparazzi).
We love the curved lines and iconic shape of this latest Ray-Ban sunglass, which has already been seen on Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The Ray-Ban logo is showcased on both sides alongside subtle pin detailing for authenticity. These adorable sunglasses come in red, white and black frame colours and also come with a polarised lens option.
Both retro and timeless, round sunglasses are as fashionable today as they were when they were worn by intellectual and political leaders. It’s time to wave goodbye to oversized squares, and embrace the little round frame.

Oliver Peoples Sunglasses Oliver Peoples KVA Ivory Shell |
Oliver Peoples is a vintage eyewear specialist that focuses its undivided attention on creating prestigious and culturally distinctive sunglasses like Oliver Peoples KVA, as seen on Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.
KVA is a limited edition frame designed in collaboration with Kris Van Assche, the Artistic Director of Dior Homme. KVA looks good on both men and women and flatters most face shapes, including that of Pierce Brosnan and Paris Hilton. The frame is handcrafted in thick polished plastic and is just as sophisticated as it is sporty. Unique technology includes a coin-edge mechanism that enables for fast and easy lens changing, offering you greater opportunity to define your own personal style. Metal inlay with the KVA logo is detailed on the top of the frame front.
Oliver Peoples has become as renowned for its celebrity collaborations and star studded campaigns as it has for vintage eyewear. In late September, 2009, the brand announced it would be reuniting with highly acclaimed photographer and director Autumn de Wilde to cast another set of influential celebrities to star in their 2010 campaign, whose last cinema ad campaign featured tastemakers Robert Evans and Zooey Deschanel in a short storyline film. So successful was the storyline, sunglass sales of the broadcasted models sky-rocketed over night.
Oliver Peoples released its first ever model in 1987. The unveiling was described as a dramatic departure from the futuristic styles that were popular at that time, and consequently changed the course of eyewear. Both fashion and technology has progressed since then, and Oliver Peoples sunglasses now protect against oil, fingerprints and dust, as well as ultraviolet radiation.
The overall collection is an accurate representation of the Southern California lifestyle, where Oliver Peoples has become part of everyday life. The lack of branding and visible logos lends subtle sophistication to each and every individual model, which has been crafted in-house by hand. Oliver Peoples sunglasses are refreshingly discreet – almost to the point of non-existence – and are the must-have accessory of the discreet and discerning dresser.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses Ray-Ban CATS 5000 Black |
CATS 5000 are designed for those who seek contemporary fashion without sacrificing elegance. These sunglasses boast cutting-edge technology in a stylish propionate frame, which features Ray-Ban logos and subtle pin detailing on thin elongated temples. The teardrop shaped lenses and key-hole bridge give this model a strong and confident personality, as well as the wearer. But what makes CATS 5000 stand out from similar Ray-Ban models is its extraordinary colour combinations.
Colour is the name of the game for this season, which has seen the introduction of Ray-Ban Rare Prints; a new proposal of its most iconic models, the Wayfarer and Clubmaster, in three new colour patterns. CATS 5000 tackles colour head on with fun fashion colours to suit both men and women, colours like pink, purple and yellow.
CATS 5000 is extremely lightweight, sturdy and exceptionally durable, the result of countless in-house procedures and modern day technology. CATS 5000 is one of the lighter pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses in terms of weight and provides all day long comfort, especially while driving.
No driver should be without a pair of polarised sunglasses, which is why CATS 5000 comes with a polarised lens option. Glare bounces off a number of surfaces, such as shiny metal, snow, water and the road. But Ray-Ban polarised lenses block up to 100 percent of glare, as well as ultraviolet radiation and blue light. This allows for better vision and optimum comfort.
For over seventy years, Ray-Ban has focused on developing the most technological aspects of the brand including its polarisation technology, which has resulted in the impossible. Ray-Ban has created a polarised lens with a gradient lens tint, which, up until now, was always deemed impossible – coming soon…
The Ray-Ban CATS collection features three very different models with a wide range of colour and lens combinations. Two aviator models, CATS 5000 and 4000, and a cats-eye model, CATS 1000, make up the collection, which are the fashionable wares of Claudia Schiffer, Leona Lewis and Drew Barrymore.
Never slow on the uptake of a trend, Sunglasses Shop has chosen CATS model 5000 as our Sunglasses of the Month, the look to employ come festival season this summer.
