SS2013 Trend Taster
Happy New Fashion Year
The fresh ideas and new endeavours that 2013 inspire deserve new clothes. And when it comes to fashion this year you really are spoiled for choice, so here’s a head start on the big trends for spring/summer 2013 that will have you looking great ahead of the great year ahead.
Take advantage of a great palette and match your shades to your fashion
Saturated with high colour, layered up white or high contrast in monochrome however the trends talk to you let your sunglasses in on the action. With every fashion week eyewear is becoming more and more key in the catwalk collections from top designers. Colour matching eyewear was a hot trend at fashion week for womenswear and menswear alike seen at Burberry, Gucci and Paul Smith were hot colour kept coming. Deep colour also abounded at Dior and Chanel. Neon fizzed at Roberto Cavalli, Erdem and Proenza Schouler's womenswear shows.
Vogue 2743s - update and saturate in 2013's favourite shade
Yellow was strong in ready-to-wear from Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen, Donna Karan, Gucci and perhaps most memorably at Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. This Vogue frame are one of our favourite yellow sunglasses thus far. This flattering gentle cat eye is a cinch to pull off and comes in several hot 2013 colours including pertinent yellow.
Paul Smith Berling's fresh from the runway - colour match this midnight blue interior
At Paul Smith menswear colour blocking, high sat pastels and primary colour gave the tailoring a fresh modern feel seeing a lot of yellow too echoing the brand's womenswear. What better to wear with the season's key wardrobe piece; the bomber jacket? Paul Smith's Berling appeared on the runway accompanying the latest looks from Paul Smith menswear.
Detail from polka dots, check and micro and maxed out prints were hot news too at Paul Smith and also seen at Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Marc Jacobs menswear. Men, why not take a cue from the menswear trends and incorporate texture and micro pattern to set you and your eyewear apart?

As an alternative to all that colour, graphic monochrome abounded providing a striking propostion. Marc Jacobs, Prada, Victoria Beckham, Paul Smith and Chanel to name but a few got straight to the point with high contrast black and white. For womenswear softer nudes were a delicious accent to minimalist looks too and a welcome break from all the colour. Miu Miu, Prada, Victoria Beckham and Marc Jacobs were a few of many that backed up the strong trend for monochrome with softer nudes. It's in black and white too for the men as monochrome prints went down a storm at trendsetting Paul Smith and Gucci menswear shows.

Renew and refresh in the new season's stripped back minimalism
The eagerly awaited first ready-to-wear collection from minimalist master Raf Simons at Christian Dior showing at fashion week and cleanliness seemed to be in the air in many of the big collections. From Chanel to Marc Jacobs to Victoria Beckham to Gucci to Prada to Paul Smith big statements were made with sparing broad strokes in womenswear. Clean lines, unfettered pieces, monochromes and strong colour blocking are the perfect way to refresh and renew as 2013 begins to unfold.
For women, the beautiful Victoria Beckham Feather Butterfly sunglass has the lightest touch that makes it one of our favourite ways to strip it down for 2013. Lenses were saturated with colour too at the shows giving this sunglass all the more cred.

Menswear was cut back quite literally at Paul Smith with his scissor prints that gave the edge to trousers, shirts and suits. Prada's menswear went all the way with deconstructed tailoring backed with sporty colour blocking and in-built stripes. Dior Homme followed suit and played on the theme of tailoring with tailor's chalk markings, de-sleeved jackets and switched the cloth to sheer in some places.

Strong catwalk collections that shaped the season and the most wanted kit at London 2012 meant Stella McCartney was unbeatable at the 2012 Fashion Awards. Her reign continues as she caps it off at the start of 2013 with an OBE in the New Years honours list. Even if Stella McCartney’s gorgeous Adidas creations can’t get you up and at 'em this year, a set of her beautiful and eco friendly sunglasses will get some spring in your step and set the tone for your wardrobe ahead of the rest. The on trend 4037 is the perfect way to wear the hottest designer there is and renew your wardrobe for a new year in fashion.

Stripes are big for 2013, indeed they're small, horizontal, vertical and everything in between. Marc Jacobs went to town on the stripe in his own collection and offered up checkerboard chic in his Louis Vuitton collection. Chanel also teamed its latest adventures in tweed with checkered borders. Paul Smith tailored his stripes, Michael Kors worked them too and Dolce and Gabbana's accompanied its Sicillian seaside theme, the latter ran through to the menswear too. The season's florals took on the graphic element too and their geometric beauty was celebrated at Dior and their boldness at Gucci. Prada continued its recent floral fixation into 2013 and displayed a real floral study that was dealt out in fur and stenciled over coats and dressed. The simple motifs bloomed everywhere including the brows of thick set glasses. Like Prada, Marc Jacobs brought the graphic to his floral forray at Louis Vuitton. Gucci's big florals also blossomed in the menswear collection.

Time to Shine - Metallics Are Hot
Burberry’s high shine was one of the highlights of the shows and the classic Burberry trench was played out in glorious foil for men and women alike. The season's must-wear the bomber jacket, shoes and sunglasses took on the stuff too and matched a fine array of sweetie wrapper shades. Prada, Tom Ford, Jonathan Saunders and Emporio Armani also showed their metal in womenswear. This flashy cat-eye from cutting edge design brand Italia Independent is almost too perfect.
