When it comes to buying shades, finding a style you like is only half the battle. Finding the right style to suit your face is paramount to looking and feeling your best. But what happens if you’re not sure of your exact face shape or know which sunglasses suit you? Well, don’t worry because that’s where we come in. So grab a camera and tracing paper (or a mirror and some lipstick – no, seriously) because you’re only two steps away from finding out!
How to measure
Take a photo of yourself facing the camera then using a piece of tracing paper, outline the shape of your face. Alternately, look into your mirror and outline your face with some lipstick or erasable pen (you want to be able to wipe it off).
SQUARE FACE SHAPE
Square faces have a broad, deep forehead, wide jawline and square chin.
You want to elongate your face and soften the jawline. Rounded shapes will help you achieve this while also lengthening your nose.
Best for you: Round, Oval
OVAL FACE SHAPE
Oval faces are well balanced and softly rounded, with a forehead slightly wider than the jaw and high cheekbones.
Jackpot! Though all frames will suit you, to keep your true oval shape, look for styles that are as wide as the broadest part of your face.
Best for you: Aviator, Cat-Eye
HEART FACE SHAPE
Heart-shaped faces have a broad forehead and wide cheekbones that narrows down to a small chin.
You lucky thing! Lots of shapes will suit you, but your goal is to choose sunglasses that will provide contrast and balance to your face, not mimic it.
Best for you: Round, Rectangular
ROUND FACE SHAPE
Round faces have an equal width and length and often have a rounded chin.
It’s all about creating angles that will flatter and balance out the roundness of your face. To do this, look to shades with sharper edges.
Best for you: Rectangular, Square
