Anaheim Belongs To RV

Well, that didn't take long. Just three races into the AMA Supercross season, and defending champ Ryan Villopoto has found his feet once again. The Oakley superstar notched his first win of this campaign in front of a fervent crowd of 37,789 at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.

In a thrilling start to the race, Villopoto was caught cold. He and his Kawasaki were bogged down in sixth following the first corner, but he simply bided his time. Trey Canard passed Jake Weimer to slip into the lead on lap one. Meanwhile, Oakley pro Justin Barcia was forced to surrender second place for retirement after landing his Honda awkwardly early on.

Following Barcia's crash, Villopoto took a cavalier approach in his charge for victory. First, he edged past Davi Millsaps to take second on lap four, before picking off Canard a lap later to move into the lead. From then on, Villopoto comfortably saw out the race with a margin of almost seven seconds over runner-up Canard. Chad Reed snatched the final podium spot.

There's no time to rest up right now for Villopoto. He'll swap Oakley sunglasses for Oakley MX Goggles once again when he and his rivals appear in Oakland on 26th January.
