MCC’s tips for choosing the best cycling sunglasses this race season

For many cyclists around the UK race season is well under way. This is no different for Muckle Cycle Club (MCC), a British cycling team that the Sunglasses Shop proudly sponsor. We spoke to John Bowman from MCC to ask him how this season is shaping up for the team and to pick his brain on what cycling sunglasses he is sporting this year.

A flying start

A flying start

The road season got under way with a flying start at events throughout March and April, with three MCC riders securing all three spots on the podium in the category 4 race at Hetton in April 2019.

“We were really pleased to see three Muckles on the podium taking the clean sweep, the guys had been putting in a lot of effort training so it's great to see these results.”

The team also trained hard in preparation for the Sloan trophy later into April 2019

MCC's take on choosing the best cycling sunglasses

MCC's take on choosing the best cycling sunglasses

Cycling sunglasses are an important piece of equipment for all cyclists. That’s why we are delighted to sponsor the MCC and supply them with some of the kit that helps them race to success. We asked John if he could provide some advice on how to pick the best cycling sunglasses to make the most of your summer’s riding.

“Comfort is key for me. You want it to feel as if you aren’t even wearing any sunglasses”

John recommends that the most important thing to consider when buying a pair of cycling sunglasses is comfort. In an ideal world they should be so comfortable that they don’t even feel like you are wearing them.

You should also choose a pair that give your eyes 100% UV protection when you are cycling. A lot of the top brands will offer this as standard in all their sunglasses. Many of the top brands like Oakley and Bollé also offer options for prescription cycling glasses to help keep your vision clear – keeping you safe as you race.

“Style is also really important for cyclists. Luckily all of the best-looking brands that the pros wear combine style and cutting-edge technology.”

Future of British Cycling

According to John, it looks like it's going to be another strong year for the growth of British cycling. Since it started in 2012, the MCC has gone from a group of a few friends cycling to a large team of people competing all over the country.

“If we can continue bringing more people into the sport and it carries on getting the support from the government it needs, then the future looks healthy.”

We will be hearing more from John and the team as the year progresses, but if you want to follow what’s going on with the team you can find them on Instagram @Mucklecc.
